Christmas Cranberry Mar-TEA-ni

As I sit here writing this, we are getting our first real snow of the season, and looking out the window, I am struck by how beautiful it is (I may not feel this way come March, but today it is lovely 😊).  My family and I celebrate Christmas, and it is a little over a week away, 8 days to be exact (I am resisting the urge to insert a panic emoji here).

Chances are, if you’re like me, you still have a list of about a zillion things that you would like to have done before Christmas, but that in reality, won’t matter at all when the day arrives.  How many cookies do we REALLY need?  Will the wheels REALLY fall off the bus if there is a teensy amount of dust on the top of that cabinet?  And as far as gifts go, if you have little kids, the truth is, they will probably love making a fort out of boxes just as much as the toys that came in them (at least this was the case for my kids when they were smaller).  If we are honest, and remove all the superfluous, it is the simple gestures and small things that mean the most during this season.

I love the quote from that classic tale from 1957, The Grinch that stole Christmas:

“It came without ribbons; it came without tags.  It came without packages, boxes or bags.”

The holidays look different this year. For some of us, it is slightly altered, and for others the difference is great.  What never changes however, are the things that are most important.

 Love, hope and joy

I encourage us all to try and make time for that quiet moment where we remember the blessings and good things that were present in this past year, despite all that was perhaps changed or lost.

Regardless of what holiday you honor, lets all look for, and celebrate, the wonder and beauty that is around us every day.

Consider pouring yourself a warm tea, or mixing yourself a cocktail (like the really delicious Christmas Cranberry Mar-TEA-ni below 😉) if you are one to imbibe.  Put your feet up and take a nice deep breath.  Show care and kindness to yourself as well as others and enjoy the magic and spirit of the season.

Merry Christmas ❤
